In this tutorial, Native Instruments product specialist Matt Cellitti explains and demonstrates creative ways to record and manipulate sounds using SoundCloud’s app and Native Instruments’ Battery. Utilizing SoundCloud’s utterly useful and free app (for iPhone, Android, etc.) which is a lifesaver for producers on-the-go, Cellitti captures a series of random sounds and upload them on his SoundCloud account. The only drawback is that you’ll have to download the file in Ogg Vorbis format (which offers the same compression as an MP3 but it’s less widely-used) a situation which can be remedied with the free audio editor Audacity, which allows you to convert from Vorbis to Wav. Then Cellitti imports the converted files into Battery, and starts manipulating the samples creating variety of sounds by adding effects, modulations, saturation, envelopes, and more.
